Global partnerships to save lives

MSD for Mothers is a 10-year global initiative to reduce deaths from complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Working closely with governments, international organisations, health experts, and those on the front line, MSD has supported groundbreaking projects across the globe.

    • Finland: MSD for Mothers is working with Väestöliitto, The Family Federation of Finland, alongside foster care organisations, to promote sexual and reproductive health among girls.
    • Germany: MSD for Mothers is working with MiMi (With Migrants For Migrants) to establish health literacy programmes and explore barriers to maternal healthcare.
    • UK: The British Pregnancy Advisory Service is leading a public awareness campaign around healthcare during pregnancy, backed by MSD for Mothers.
    • Denmark: The Maternity Foundation, working with MSD and university researchers, has developed an app to train birth attendants in sub-Saharan Africa.
    • Ireland: Concern Worldwide is implementing community-based interventions around antenatal care that will reach up to 67,000 women in Malawi.
    • Belgium: Medics Without Vacation conducted 12 medical training missions to the Democratic republic of Congo, working with local health workers around maternity care.
    • India: MSD for Mothers is working with a range of local organisations to strengthen the capacity of health providers to meet clinical standards for maternal care.
    • Brazil: In partnership with the Brazilian government and a leading university, MSD for Mothers has identified gaps in maternal care that will inform efforts to improve quality of care in two regions with particularly poor maternal health outcomes.
    • U.S., Uganda & Zambia: Merck for Mothers is one of the founding partners of Saving Mothers, Giving Life, a public-private partnership with the U.S., Ugandan, and Zambian governments to reduce maternal and newborn mortality in sub-Saharan Africa.
