THE THEME IS “Accessibility to Quality Maternal Care and Safe Medication”
Pregnancy is an experience that affects almost everyone.
But information on the use of medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding is fragmented, open to interpretation, or sometimes non-existent. Severe inequalities persist when it comes to access to care and medicines for future mothers.
Our vision is a world where all women have equitable access to high-quality maternal care before, during and after the pregnancy experience. That’s why Safe Motherhood Week advocates for “Accessibility to Quality Maternal Care and Safe Medication”.
Together with ConcePTION (IMI funded initiative), we work on understanding what kind of information women need during pregnancy and breastfeeding and how they would prefer to receive that information.

Breast cancer treatment during pregnancy is possible, and providing standard treatment is followed, the maternal prognosis is as good as in non-pregnant women.
Women’s concerns about their health should not simply be dismissed because they are pregnant or postpartum. This delay in diagnosis can be catastrophic.
Access to high-quality pregnancy and childbirth care, prevention of maternal mortality and efficient post-delivery contraception must be our priorities at the global level.
